Using Technology to Teach Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum

Elementary Institute
Secondary Institute

Overview

The primary goal of the Reading and Writing Institute is to enable teachers to design lessons using the Planning Tool for Technology Integration that integrate the use of technology into daily instruction and support content, reading, writing, and technology learning goals and indicators. All work is based upon the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards and the BCPS Learning Goals and Indicators, PreK-12. Teachers will use content and technology indicators that are already a part of the BCPS curriculum.

All teachers who successfully complete the Reading and Writing Institute, by satisfactorily completing all assignments, attending all sessions, and completing the final project, will receive 2 MSDE/CPD credits.

The Reading and Writing Institute involves a total of 30 hours of instruction. There is no partial registration available. Participants must agree to these requirements:

  • Attendance at four, 3 hour face-to-face classes during the fall or spring semester.
  • Completion of five, 3 hour online classes.
  • Attendance at one, 3 hour follow-up session.
  • Teachers who attend all eight face-to-face sessions of the Reading and Writing Institute and satisfactorily complete all assignments and the final project will receive two MSDE inservice credits. No partial credit is available.
