Instructional Technology Liaisons
Technology Literacy for ALL Students

Role of the Instructional Technology Liaison/Alternate

Each school's principal has been asked to identify, from the school's professional staff, an instructional technology liaison and alternate. These persons serve as the schools' contact with the Office of Instructional Technology and the Department of Technology. They provide many services to the school including the sharing of information regarding the use of technology in instruction, software and hardware support, and the maintenance of hardware and software inventories. Liaisons should be members of the school team that plans, designs, and implements professional development for the integration of technology into the learning process and helps to meet School Improvement Plan goals. As part of the school's technology integration team, they work to provide our students with the knowledge and skills they need to participate meaningfully in a multicultural, technological, and change-oriented society.

Responsibilities of the Instructional Technology Liaison

  • Serve as the school's contact with the Office of Instructional Technology.
  • Attend the regularly scheduled liaison meetings and disseminate information from meetings in a timely fashion to all staff members.
  • Receive training, through the liaison program, in the use of new software and hardware and provide peer assistance in the use of software and hardware as they are integrated into teaching the curriculum.
  • Work with the Department of Technology's Customer Support Center Staff to manage and support the school's technology.
  • Provide in-school troubleshooting for computer hardware and software and arrange with the Customer Support Center for any repairs needed beyond minor maintenance
  • Utilize the BCPS Software Evaluation Process for staff requests for new software.
  • Collaborate with the technology integration teacher and the library media specialist to maintain the school's software and hardware inventories and to complete the MSDE online inventory.
  • Work with an OIT area resource teacher and other staff members in the development and implementation of Strategies for Technology Integration to meet goals in the School Improvement Plan.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of professional development in technology integration for school staff, based on the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards and the Technology Skills Continuum for Professional Development.
