Elementary Technology Integration Teachers
Since the 2003-2004 school year, each elementary school in the Baltimore County Public Schools has had a staffing allocation for a technology integration teacher. The role of the integration teacher is to provide leadership in the school by working with teachers and students to effectively integrate the use of technology into instruction that meets local, state, and national standards for instructional technology.
The integration teacher has job responsibilities in three key areas in the school: Instruction, Technology Integration Leadership, and Technical Support to Teachers.
Instruction
- Selects and uses appropriate technology to support content- specific learning outcomes.
- Implements appropriate instructional strategies for integrating technology into instruction.
- Assesses students' learning/instructional needs to identify the appropriate technology for instruction.
- Manages technology in the classroom or lab to maximize student access and learning.
- Uses technology to promote student-centered learning environments including hands-on activities.
- Uses digital content in instruction.
- Uses technology to increase student engagement though collaboration and communication.
- Uses technology to solve problems and increase critical/creative thinking.
- Uses technology to differentiate instruction by content, process and product.
- Applies and models legal and ethical use of technology.
Technology Integration Leadership
- Supports teachers as they integrate technology into instruction and utilize technology resources in the classroom or lab.
- Understands and models teaching that incorporates 21st Century Learning Skills and student-centered learning through student engagement.
- Works collaboratively with classroom teachers to plan and deliver technology integrated lessons that support technology across the curriculum, both in the lab and in the classroom.
- Models creative and innovative uses of technology in classroom instruction.
- Works with teachers to model, coach, and teach technology skills to meet the Maryland Technology Literacy Standards for Students.
- Provides models for teachers in differentiating instruction through the use of Universal Design for Learning by using technology to meet individual learning needs and to support a variety of learning styles and modalities.
- Provides technology leadership in the school by serving on the school improvement team and/or on the school's technology committee.
- Assists in the design and implementation of professional development in technology integration for school staff based on the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards, the Technology Skills Continuum for Professional Development, and the Maryland Professional Development Standards for Teachers.
- Evaluates and reflects upon professional practices, emerging technologies, and current research to support student learning.
Technical Support to Teachers
- Assists in teaching staff and students the proper operation, care, and maintenance of computer equipment.
- Assists teachers and students in maintaining protocols for organization and use of shared folders and resources on the school’s server.
- Performs minor maintenance and/or make arrangements for necessary repairs of technology resources.
- Coordinates daily scheduling and operation of the computer lab(s) to provide equitable access for all students.
- Establishes and/or maintains rules and procedures for the lab in collaboration with school staff.
- Works with the school's library media specialist and/or the technology liaison to maintain and update software and hardware inventories.

To support the elementary technology integration teachers, the Office of Instructional Technology provides a series of workshops for new integration teachers, professional development throughout the school year, and school-based assistance in planning and implementing technology-integrated instruction.
