Initiatives – Future Educators of America

“We will have graduates who have the knowledge and skills to participate meaningfully in a multicultural, technological, and change-oriented society.” – Blueprint for Progress

The Future Educators Association (FEA) is a part of Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) “grow your own teachers” strategy, in which students with an expressed early interest in education are mentored and given opportunities during the school year to build the skills and temperament needed to be an effective teacher.  Sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa International, FEA is an international network of nearly 1,000 chapters located around the world. The international FEA office links these chapters together by hosting an annual conference, offering advisor training sessions, publishing monthly newsletters, and maintaining a website with updated information about chapter activities worldwide.

Locally, BCPS FEA chapters meet individually once to twice a month, participate in year-long projects such as peer tutoring, and attend the annual BCPS FEA Conference. In addition, the Department of Human Resources offers a scholarship opportunity to BCPS students interested in pursuing a degree in education, and there are opportunities for these students to return to the district, after college, as a teacher.
