Video Production Title Ask a Politician!
Video Type Group Interview: Question and answer session with a real political expert
Description/Overview Using Safari Live, the class will interact with a real politician to ask them questions about the role of the government in our everyday lives.
Approximate Time Needed 90 minutes to prepare and edit questions to ask the politician, another 45-90 minutes in the interaction session itself.

Activities
  1. At least one month prior to this lesson, review the BCPS SafariLive policies and the Videoconferencing Checklist and Timeline
  2. As a class activity, show a sample of an politician in a question and answer session.
  3. Research the role of government and issues currently effecting the selected politician.
  4. Write questions
    • Students use information found in their research to write their questions
    • Teacher will review questions and select which will be asked.
  5. Plan session
    • If using a camcorder on tripod, who will control the camera. Make sure they practice zooms and pans.
  6. Rehearse asking their questions.
  7. Shoot and compile
  8. Edit final product
    • Use MovieMaker (or other software)
    • Import the video from camera and/ or other sources
    • Arrange video / pictures
    • Add transitions and titles
    • Edit audio
    • Finalize and save
  9. Present/ share
Differentiation Depending on the type of camera used, a student can be assigned to operate the camera during the video conference.

If session was recorded, edit it into a news story for use on either a school news show or Channel 73.
