The Coastal Residents' Alliance has hired your environmental research team, Bay-Watchers, Inc., to investigate the impact of human activities on the Chesapeake Bay.

How does our use of natural resources impact the quality of the environment?

The Alliance will expect your team to create a public service announcement (PSA) that informs the public of the impact of natural resource use and other human activities on the Chesapeake Bay environment.

Approximate Time Needed 360 minutes (180 research/write, 90 film, 90 edit)

Activities
  1. Complete research component
  2. Show example of finished PSA and discuss the project (the example is high school production quality)
  3. Gather B-roll and stills (Pics4Learning has copyright free images that can be used)
    • of Chesapeake Bay
    • of examples of bay plants and animals
    • images of things that impact the bay (pollution, development, etc)
  4. Write script and storyboard
  5. Plan production
    • think about where and when to film
    • who is perfoming? Who is running the equipment? WHO'S IN CHARGE?
  6. Rehearse
  7. Shoot and compile
  8. Edit final product
    • Use MovieMaker (or other software)
    • Import the video from camera and/ or other sources
    • Arrange video / pictures
    • Add transitions and titles
    • Edit audio
    • Finalize and save
  9. Present/ share
