Data and Statistics (continued)

FedStats | A-Z Guide to statistical data by topic
Is the new window on the full range of official statistical information available to the public from the Federal Government. Use the Internet's powerful linking and searching capabilities to track economic and population trends, education, health care costs, aviation safety, foreign trade, energy use, farm production, and more. Access official statistics collected and published by more than 100 Federal agencies without having to know in advance which agency produces them.

FlyBase: A Database of the Drosophila Genome
FlyBase is a comprehensive database for information on the genetics and molecular biology of Drosophila. It includes data from the Drosophila Genome Projects and data curated from the literature. FlyBase is a joint project with the Berkeley Drosophila Genome Project.

The Protein Data Bank
Worldwide repository for the processing and distribution of 3-D biological macromolecular structure data.

GenBank Database
GenBank is the NIH genetic sequence database, an annotated collection of all publicly available DNA sequences.

Data Centers
Webliography of data centers support all fields of science.

Social Science Data Analysis Network (SSDAN)
Is a university-based organization that creates demographic media, such as user guides, web sites, and hands-on classroom computer materials that make U.S. census data accessible to policy makers, educators, the media, and informed citizens.

Statistical Resources on the Web
Easy access to 100's of data sources by subject or topic compiled by the University of Michigan.

Center for International Earth Science Information (CIESIN)
Use the SUBJECT GUIDE to locate data, applications and information distributed across all our website organized by subject. The items are organized alphabetically, and may be listed in more than one category. Categories include the following:

DataAccess Tools
Many text and numeric databases are available from Federal agencies for policy analysis and general research. The tools provided allow you to select statistical information interactively (for example, making a selection from a scrollable list on a form), view the data in a variety of formats including HTML tables and graphics, print, or download into spreadsheets. Most of the tools require at least Netscape 3.x or Internet Explorer 3.x.

First Gov
FirstGov.gov, the official U.S. gateway to all government information. The Reference Center has collections of the following: (1) Data & Statistics (2) Graphics and Photos (3) Laws & Regulations

Home Energy Saver
The Home Energy Saver's Energy Advisor calculates energy use and savings opportunities, based on a detailed description of the home provided by the user. Users can begin the process by simply entering their zip code, and in turn receive instant initial estimates

Scorecard
The Environmental Defense Fund's Scorecard web site allows everyone to determine the sources of pollution in their own communities merely by entering their zip code. It identifies the companies that produce the pollution and even lets users send a fax to the polluters complaining about it. The technical content of the site was created by people whose expertise in environmental issues is well known. They relied on publicly available data and compiled it in a form that any non-technical person could use to get immediate and understandable results.

Energy Information Administration
ata Abstracts are comprehensive reports that present selected, region-specific statistics on energy use by households, household vehicles, commercial buildings, and manufacturing establishments. All Data Abstracts include general information on those aspects of a region's geography, natural resources, economy, agriculture, and industry that are related to energy markets and demand

National Center for Health Statistics
Compile statistical information to guide actions and policies to improve the health of the U.S. population.

U.S. Geological Survey - Federal source for science about the Earth, its natural and living resources, natural hazards, and the environment. Data collections include the following:
Core Research Center
GEO-Data Explorer
Geographic Names
Geospatial Data
Global Land Info System
Mineral Resources On-Line Spatial Data
NBII - Biological Data
Real-Time Water Data
U.S. Coal Quality Database (COALQUAL)
U.S. Coal Resource Database (USCOAL)

National Atlas
The new National Atlas includes products and services designed to stimulate children and adults to visualize and understand complex relationships between environments, places, and people. It contributes to our knowledge of the environmental, resource, demographic, economic, social, political, and historical dimensions of American life. The National Atlas of the United States® is intended to provide a comprehensive, map-like view into the enormous wealth of data collected by the Federal Government.
