Teen Read Week Celebration
The goal of the Teen Read Week survey was to encourage young people to consider the value and fun of reading, and to educate
ourselves about young people's views about reading. By hearing directly from teens (see survey), we can better understand their interests and

  American Library Association Born to Read Project
Helping parents raise children with healthy bodies and minds is the goal of Born to Read: How to Nurture a Baby's Love of Learning. Born to Read builds partnerships between librarians and health care providers to reach out to new and expectant "at-risk" parents and help them raise children who are "born to read." This three-year national demonstration project is being administered by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), and funded by a grant from The Prudential Foundation.

  Literature for Teens: Writers' Recommendations Hungry Mind Review: An Independent Book Review makes recommendations to draw teen readers to books that aren't specifically aimed at them; to work that is written for a literate, adult readership, but which might have particular power for individuals coming of age and wrestling with all that means. Books were selected by authors.
     
 

Maryland Black-Eyed Susan Book Award

Each year since 1992, the Black-Eyed Susan Book Award has been given in several categories. The purpose of this award is to
promote literacy and lifelong reading habits by encouraging students to read quality, contemporary literature.  When the required number of books have been read, each student will cast one vote for the book he or she considers to be the most outstanding in each category. Votes from across the state are sent in to the Black-Eyed Susan committees and tallied to
determine the winners.

  Pronouncing Dictionary of Authors' Names This dictionary is the collaborative work of the members of the LM_NET library listserv. Authors are presented in alphabetical order, with an example of their work for extra identification.

  Reading by 9  Archive of published articles in the Baltimore SunPapers from 1997-present. "The Baltimore Sun has developed and invested in a multi-faceted, five-year initiative to improve the reading skills of children. Reading By 9 is a comprehensive community service program that seeks to inspire a measurable increase in the percentage of 9-year-olds who are able to read at, or above, third grade level."
