Today's session will begin with an overview of two basic
concepts:
How the Internet Works
Navigating the Web with Browsers
Browsers are software that allow you to see the contents of World Wide Web. Graphical browsers, like Netscape and Internet Explorer allow you to see the images and film available on World Wide Web. You can also hear sound files using a browser. By the use of the mouse, you choose highlighted "links" on the screen.
For our overview we will be using two tutorials created by SFU. They are non-technical and very basic. This will serve as a review for some and a good beginning for the "newbies" to the Internet.
Begin by clicking on the underlined hyperlinks. To return to this page, use your Back button
or Go menu.
