 WHAT'S HAPPENING

Join parents, children, teachers, school and public librarians, child advocacy leaders, law enforcement, public officials, and Internet industry leaders in an electronic
FAMILY INTERNET TOWN MEETING
to discuss issues and uses of the Internet by children and families. See how much children know about this powerful technology, how families safely guide their children, and how we can make the Internet a FAMILY-FRIENDLY learning environment.

WHY WE NEED TO KNOW

The Internet can be an extraordinary resource for teachers and students and a very positive and important tool to supplement traditional learning. We need to make sure that students who "sign on" to this vast learning resource understand both its pitfalls as well as its extraordinary potential, and that they learn how to use responsibly this "blackboard of the future."

Secretary of Education Richard Riley

There are resources and technological tools available to make sure that the Internet is rewarding, educational, and safe for our kids, and there are basic safety tips that we need to get out there to parents, teachers, and librarians.

Honorable Dennis Eckart, former congressman from Ohio and spokesperson for the America Links Up Campaign

The key steps for rewarding and safe online experiences for children are for parents to become involved, regardless of their level of technical savvy, and maintain a continuing dialogue with their children.
