Dear Sponsor:
Baltimore County Public Schools are poised to set the stage for a national movement in information technology. We want your participation as a sponsor for our Parent Internet Education initiative.
In December of 1997, at the Internet Online
Summit, Vice President Gore challenged all to work together to build
a family-friendly Internet. Baltimore County Public Schools have accepted
this challenge! We are working with
Parry Aftab, Esq., author of A
Parent's Guide To The Internet, to develop a series of parent education
workshops and events to ensure that the Internet is a safe, educational,
and entertaining place for children. We hope to accomplish the goal of empowering
parents by giving them information, resources, training, human support services,
and technical solutions.
To that end, we are planning the following:
Parent Internet Expo to be held at Towson University on June 5-7, 1998
The Expo will showcase leaders in the Internet industry, child advocacy groups, and Internet vendors whose mission is to develop Internet resources specifically for children. Panels will also be organized with leading speakers on subjects ranging from how to buy and use a computer, Internet 101, sites of interest to younger kids, teen sites, special need sites, seniors online, children's online safety, education sites, and filtering software.
Local school Internet workshops for parents and guardians beginning in April 1998 and continuing throughout the 1998-1999 school year
These workshops will focus on topics such as (1) Information available on the Internet for children and families, (2) Comfort and confidence in using the Internet and the technology, (3) Use of the Internet for parenting and personal development, and (4) Tips and tools for safe use of the Internet by children.
We are offering several levels of sponsorship ranging from $2,500.00 to $25,000.00.
