Dear Vice President Gore:
I am an eighth grade student writing on behalf of the Parent Internet Education (P.I.E.) Steering Committee of Baltimore County Public Schools, Maryland. We would like to cordially invite you to our P.I.E. Family Internet EXPO on June 5-7, 1998, at Towson University. It would be an honor to have you speak with families on the morning of Saturday, June 6, 1998.
The goal of P.I.E. Family Internet EXPO is to increase parental awareness of the many positive aspects of the Internet, and inform them on ways they can teach their children to avoid the negative ones. The EXPO is our kickoff event for a yearlong Internet awareness and training initiative which has been lauded by child advocacy and Internet experts as one of the most ambitious in the nation. We intend to empower parents with information, resources, training. and human support services as well as necessary technical solutions to ensure that the Internet is a safe, educational, and entertaining online environment for both students and their families. There will be a series of seminars, lectures, and hands-on learning activities as well as exhibitors, many of which were seen at the Online Summit: Focus on Children, for the parents attending our EXPO .
Our goals are aimed to meet the challenges that you and President Clinton have outlined regarding a family-friendly Internet. Because of this, we believe that your presence as an advocate of parents and children being informed and online would be very beneficial for those attending and our committee's mission. This EXPO would also be an event where you could address future voters and make them aware of your standings on technology and the Internet in schools. We sincerely hope that you will set aside some time in your schedule to be our honored guest. Your presence and support would have a most positive effect on the success of our yearlong initiative.
| Sincerely, |
