- Improve
quality library collections to improve student achievement by
sparking and sustaining enthusiasm for reading and research.

- Apply American Library
Association's 9 Standards for Student Learning in all
library instructional planning and implementation to ensure that
students are information literate in order to be successful in
an increasingly challenging information driven society.

| |
- Expand, refine, and
implement the K-12 Online Research Modules to integrate
information literacy and technology, to use information for critical
thinking and problem solving, and to provide students with a
research process pathway.

| |
- Study library media
center support staffing patterns and revise the Evaluation
of School Library Media Specialist instrument to better reflect
the performance expectations and role of library media specialists.

Goal II: To maintain a safe and orderly learning environment |

Information Services Goals: |
|
| |
- Continue nationally
recognized parental involvement initiative, Get a Piece of
the P.I.E. (Parent Internet Education) to increase knowledge
of technology skills, the benefits of online learning, and the
safety issues and tools.

- Teach students safe
and responsible use of the Internet as set forth in the Board
Telecommunications Policy to ensure safe and ethical use of technology
tools and resources.

- Consult with the Division
of Facilities on all school building projects to ensure that
library facilities meet physical requirements for an increasingly
technological library environment

Goal III: To use resources effectively and efficiently |

|
| |
- Seek funding for library
media programming to ensure that students in all schools have
equal access to information and ideas which support the teaching
and learning of the Essential Curriculum
|

| |
- Complete automation
systems in all schools in order to use it as a management tool,
provide access to the collection, circulate materials, conduct
inventory, and generate reports for collection development and
analysis. Plan for a Union Catalog of all school holdings.

- Expand and revise onLINE:
The Librarians' Information Network for the Essential Curriculum
to ensure effective use of online technology as a way to make
resources easily accessible to teachers, students, and families
|
|
| |
- Provide increased access
to resources through a "virtual library" of commercial
online information databases such as Electric Library
and Literature Resource Center which allow for 24-hour
access to teachers, students, and families.
