Using Library Pro

The Library Pro integrated library automated system is broken down into modules that handle specialized library tasks. Each module follows a similar user interface outline that is designed to make your tasks easy and quick.

The Home Window serves as a map to your library. From this screen you can reach every corner of your database. The Home Window displays the different modules you can access. Simply clicking on a module icon will take you there. Your Guest access privileges will allow you to see the Keyword Searching, Subject Searching, Title Searching, Author Searching, Expert Searching, and Browse the Shelves icons.

Search Tips Using Library Pro

Using Wildcards

  • Use wildcards when you are not sure of the spelling of a name or the exact title of an item.
  • You can use the wildcards "?" and "*" in every search module.
  • Both wildcards can be used interchangeably to replace 1 or more letters in the string of text you are looking for. You can type the wildcards at any position in the search term.
  • For example, each of these variations would find records for the author Shakespeare:
*speare, ?speare, shake*, shake?, shake*peare, shake?peare

  • Using Boolean Operators

You can use Boolean operators to refine searches in all search modules except Titles.

To:  Do this: Use the Boolean operator:  For example:
Narrow the search Select only items that have both search terms  and  cats and dogs
Broaden the search Select items that have either search term  or  cats or dogs
Narrow the search Do not select items that have the first search term if they also have the second search term  not  animals not dogs
