What is still being done to help?
What resources are available for people who want to help?
This topic is very important to our society today for many reasons. One of the reasons is that these creatures are decreasing rapidly. The Bengal Tiger species decreased from 50,000 tigers down to only 4,000 tigers over the past 100 years. People hunt and poison them for sport and to gain their fur. These incredible animals do not deserve to die because of humans' bad judgment. The Bengal Tiger is not a threat to humans. In fact, the only times a tiger would eat a human is when it is too old to hunt.. [TOP]
By keeping Bengal tigers in zoos, zoologists are able to take care of them and protect them. This results in a longer life span. Furthermore, there are breeding programs in zoos designed to help increase the population of this species. Sadly, this is a very slow process and few new cubs are born in captivity. Law makers all over the world are trying to help the tiger by passing laws to stop poachers and hunters from killing the tigers. This allows the tigers to live in their natural habitat with a bigger population. [TOP]
There are many things students can do to help the Bengal Tigers. One thing students can do is take up collections in their schools or neighborhoods to support zoos and wildlife preserves. They could also adopt a Bengal Tiger. By adopting an animal, the money that you pay goes toward feeding, protecting, and taking care of the animal. Many of the organizations that are trying to help endangered species are non-profit groups, so it is very important to give them the financial support they need by making donations or adopting an animal. What resources are available for people who want to help?
You could learn more about these animals by going to your local zoo or library or by using the Internet. You could also use a phonebook to look up programs to help save endangered species. People could also contact the World Wildlife Organization to get more information about how to get involved in this effort. [TOP]
There are many interesting facts about this species. The appearance of this animal is amazing. They have orange or yellow and black stripes and weigh 400-575 pounds. They are very fast runners. They are also nocturnal, able climbers, and good swimmers. They have very keen senses and can leap up to 32 feet, and swim up to 18 miles. Bengal Tigers live in Southeast Asia, India, Nepal, and Bangladesh, and are found in swamps, deserts, grasslands, and forests.
Another name for the Bengal tiger, besides the Indian tiger, is the White tiger. They eat only meat like deer, water buffalo, wild pigs, small mammals, and sometimes even birds; therefore, they are classified as carnivores. This tiger has very strong teeth, and can bite through wood as thick as a 2-by-4. They have two to five babies in a litter and can even have twins. You can hear a Bengal tiger's roar from up to two miles away. The Bengal tiger purrs when it is happy or in pain.
The Bengal tiger species is decreasing very quickly. If you don't do something to help soon, they will be gone. Even just one donation could help several tigers. [TOP]
