In 2005, the world’s wealthiest countries agreed to raise the level of their development aid to poor countries to 0.7% of their national income. But so far only five countries-- Denmark, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden--  have done so. Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the United States was 0.22% of its GNI in 2005.  A recent poll indicated that over 60% of Americans believe that contributing 0.7% of our GNI to assist the world’s least developed countries is the right thing to do.
