There are four different methods of taking notes on notecards:

Quotation Note

• Word for word from text
• Always uses quotation marks
• If anything is left out, ... is used

Summary Note

• Uses your own words
• Uses complete sentences
• Uses student's own style

Outline Note

• Highlights factual information
• Uses abbreviations

Combination Note

• Combines above formats
• Usually most efficient format
• Helps to begin writing paper
