Teacher's Guide

Different, Yet the Same

 Scenario

You've been studying about the cultures of China and Nigeria. You've learned how the children of China and Nigeria are sometimes just like you and sometimes very different from you.

Now, you're going on a very special field trip, right here on your computer, to visit Mexico and Japan and learn about their cultures.

While you're visiting, remember our very important question...

How is my culture similar to or different from other cultures?

Buckle your seat belts and let's get going...

 Task

  Product

You're going to keep a travel journal about the places you visit and the information you learn. Some of you will be visiting Mexico and others will be visiting Japan.

When we get back from our field trip, you will  work with a group of students to create a KidPix slide show sharing the information you have found.

Remember...the question you will be answering is

How is my culture similar to or different from other cultures?

Assessments

Use this checklist for your KidPix slide show.

Review your KidPix checklist to make sure you have included all the information required.

Share your group slide show with your classmates.

After each group has shared their work, your class will discuss how the cultures of Mexico and Japan are different from or the same as yours. Use a Venn diagram to show how some things are the same and some things are different.
