Social Studies: Archaeology - Grade 3

Tools of the Archaeologist and Ancient Egypt

 Focus:

Archaeologist use scientific methods to gather evidence about past cultures. Cultures develop through interaction with the environment and other cultures.

BCPS Indicators:

Interpret and apply information specific to social studies disciplines by reading, asking questions, and observing.

Interpret and apply information from primary and secondary sources including pictures, graphics, maps, atlases, artifacts, and timelines.

Explain why some locations are better than others for specific human activities.

Identify geographic characteristics that affect where people settle.

Identify ways people adapt to and modify the natural environment to satisfy their wants.

Compare cultures around the world.

As a class, discuss what treasures they would like to "bury" in a time capsule for future third grade students to find that will reflect our culture today.
