Biomes/Ecosystems

Teacher's Tips and Tools for Information Literacy Skills

 Unit:

Grade 8 Science - Environment

Enduring Knowledge:

No organism lives in isolation from other living things. The population of the organism in any ecosystem is determined by the life forms which provide the energy with the environment. Relationships can strengthen, weaken, or cause a population to remain the same. The changes in populations may be either detrimental or beneficial for the ecosystem. Relationships that strengthen, weaken, or cause a population to remain the same are necessary.

 Focus:

How does the type of relationship impact the population in an environment?

How does the interdependency of organisms in an environment affect the balance of an ecosystem?

 BCPS Science Indicator:

Students will identify and explain the interdependency of organisms within the environment in a given ecosystem/biome (e.g. producer/consumer, predator/prey, host/parasite).

(State Standard 3.8.12, 3.8.13, 6.8.2)

 BCPS Library Media Indicators:

Use research skills in order to evaluate, select, record, and reorganize information.

Use reference skills in order to locate information in a variety of sources.

Discriminate among the various types of media in order to produce the appropriate medium for a particular purpose.
