TIME FRAME:


This is an independent project lasting approximately from September to May (according to each teacher's due date).

 Unit:

  Independent Reading Program for AP/GT 11 English

Focus:

  The independent reading program for AP/GT 11 focuses on an in-depth study of a single American writer approved by the teacher. The student will conclude this study by writing a brief research paper analyzing some aspect of the writer's style in relation to the tensions of the times.

  • Analyze a variety of American literary works to determine the writer's purpose and the relationship between the writer's work and the times in which he or she wrote.
  • Incorporate a thesis into an introduction, select evidence that supports the thesis, determine an appropriate organizational pattern, and conclude with a statement that reinforces the thesis to present the results of an independent inquiry in a formal written report on some aspect of American literature.
  • Select, interpret, evaluate, and organize information to summarize the results of an investigation.
