Focus:

The
independent reading program for AP/GT 11 focuses on an in-depth
study of a single American writer approved by the teacher. The
student will conclude this study by writing a brief research
paper analyzing some aspect of the writer's style in relation
to the tensions of the times. |

- Analyze a variety of American literary works
to determine the writer's purpose and the relationship between
the writer's work and the times in which he or she wrote.
- Incorporate a thesis into an introduction,
select evidence that supports the thesis, determine an appropriate
organizational pattern, and conclude with a statement that reinforces
the thesis to present the results of an independent inquiry in
a formal written report on some aspect of American literature.
- Select, interpret, evaluate, and organize
information to summarize the results of an investigation.
