Teacher Tips for Research Model

  1.  Before using this research model, the students should have completed the BCPS "Exploring Fossils" unit.  Students should be familiar with Microsoft Word and have experience copying and pasting pictures.

2. There are six fossil charts and each student must choose one fossil to make predictions before researching. (These charts may be printed ahead of time or done online).

3.  Once students have completed their prediction chart, they may research their fossil using the web link.  Have students click on the picture of their fossils.   Then students will fill in the facts they learned about the animal.

4. Students will look at the Fossil Trading Card Checklist to understand the expectations for the final product.

5.  Students can use the Student Directions hyperlink to help them cut and paste their fossil pictures on their trading cards. Then they will take the information from the Fossil Finder Chart to complete their Fossil Trading Card.

6.  Finally, they will share their trading cards with the class and receive their Fantastic Fossil Finder Certificate.  Teachers can complete these certificates and distribute to the class.

7. For a hands on learning experience, check the Maryland Science Center Link for information about a possible field trip.

8. To differentiate learning, students can work as partners or students can complete more than one trading card.
