The Maryland Science Center has just opened a new exhibit called Dinosaur Mysteries. They want to add an addition to the exhibit for kids by kids. The new addition will focus on student research about fossils. Click on the picture to find out more about dinosaurs. You are a paleontologist. You will research a fossil in order to infer information about the animal. Then you will create a trading card to share what you have learned with your classmates and visitors to the Maryland Science Center!

Task and Product

First you will choose one of the fossils from
the six
Fossil Finder Charts.
Then you
will look at the fossil to make
predictions with evidence.
Next, you will use a website to research the animal and compare your predictions to the facts found on the website. Then you will use the Fossil Finder Chart to record the information you learned from the website. Finally, you will create a trading card or produce a video quiz show to show what you have learned about the animal! |

|

1. Use the Fossil Finder Chart to organize your predictions and compare the facts after you have researched your animal. 2. Use the Website Evaluation Chart to determine whether it is a good site using the given criteria. 3. Use the Fossil Resource Checklist to evaluate the websites listed on the Student Resource Page. 4. You will use your research to create a Fossil Trading Card. Click on Student Directions for tips on cutting and pasting your fossil picture. 5. Now you can use the Trading Card Activity Sheet to display your fossil research.

Let's Share! Now that we have learned so much, we will share this new information with our classmates by presenting our trading cards. Once you have successfully completed your research and shared your trading card, you will earn a Fantastic Fossil Finder Certificate. Think Big Thoughts!
