Scenario

 

 

There is a new movie coming out this weekend that you really want to see. Your parents tell you that you have to earn the money to buy your movie ticket. Together, you come up with household chores that you can do during the week to earn money. It is your goal to have enough money saved by the end of the week to buy your movie ticket. To reach your goal you will:                                    

      Sign a contract agreeing to complete chores
             to earn enough money for your movie ticket.
             One of your parents will also sign the

      Record your completed chores each day on 
             your data collection sheet.

      Determine how much money you have earned
             at the end of each day.

      Determine how much money you have earned
             at the end of the week.

      Create a poster, book, picture album, or Kid
             Pix presentation to show the chores you
             completed to earn your money.

You will receive a certificate for successfully reaching your goal. 

      Key Question: What is the relationship between work and money?

Tasks

First, you will research the history of money.

Second, you will determine the value of different coins.

Third, you will practice showing and counting different money amounts.

Fourth, you will use your data collection sheet to determine how much each chore is worth. Make sure you read the directions carefully before using your data collection sheet.  html version

Fifth, you will select which chores you will complete.

Sixth, you will complete your data collection sheet.

Seventh, you will use your data collection sheet to create your product.

Finally, you will evaluate your own product using the counting money and product rubrics.

To show the chores you completed, you may create any one of the products below:

Use your data collection sheet to help you answer the questions below:

             movie ticket by the end of the week?

            money you need?

Gather & Sort

Use your data collection sheet to:

      determine and record how much each chore
             pays

      record the chores you completed

      determine and record how much money you
             have at the end of each day

      determine and record how much money you
             have at the end of the week

Analyze & Explain

You will present your product to your class.  After everyone in your class has presented their projects, you will create a class graph to display which chores were completed the most and which chores were completed the least.

Conclusion

Congratulations if you reached your goal!  Enjoy your movie!
