This grant provides an opportunity for seven teams of K12 teachers and library media specialsits to engage in collaborative staff development that will (a) encourage innovative, partnerships that strengthen teaching methods and technology integration in World Language and ESOL education; and, (b) develop instructional partnership models as examples of best practices in both staff development and in school library media programming, instruction, and administration. The research in School Library Media clearly shows that when librarians collaborate with teachers to integrate information and technology literacy competencies with the curriculum and instruction, student achievement increases.
As a nation we are increasingly aware of our interdependence with diverse cultures and our need to participate in the global community. In addition, the growing diversity of Maryland’s population requires the preparation of a citizenry that is sensitive to other languages and cultures.
