Grant for Collaborative Teacher – Librarian Projects
Description/Instructions | Application | Learning Log
Applications are now being accepted for teacher-librarian collaborative grants to impact student achievement in 5th grade, middle school and high school Science. HSA data indicates that student scores on the HSA in the area of biology demonstrated consistent weakness in the area of of skill and processes.
High School Assessment (HSA) data indicates a minimal increase in the median score of Science Core Learning Goal 1, Skills and Processes of Biology as reported on the MSDE 2006 Content Standard Scores – Biology (data.) In 2004, the median score was 405 for the same content standard. The gain of 13 points over a 3-year period in this standard is not significant in light of the importance of these foundational skills in all areas of science.
The research in School Library Media clearly shows that when librarians collaborate with teachers to integrate information and technology literacy competencies with the curriculum and instruction, student achievement increases. This grant provides an opportunity for 25 5th grade, middle and high school school teacher and librarian partners to engage in collaborative staff development that will ( a) encourage innovative, collaborative partnerships that strengthen teaching methods and technology integration in Science education; and, (b) develop instructional partnership models as examples of best practices in both staff development and in school library media programming, instruction, and administration.
