Mission Statement
The Department of Humanities provides vision, leadership, and expertise in the development of curricular and instructional initiatives that support achievement for all Baltimore County students. The development of curricula, based on research and best practices, provides teachers, students, and parents with a quality instructional program that is firmly based on the Maryland Learning Outcomes. The department provides service to schools to support the effective implementation of the curriculum, and to meet the instructional needs of teachers, and learning needs of students. The Department of Humanities is committed to collaboration with all BCPS curricular offices to provide a coordinated instructional program to meet the diverse needs of its entire school community.

Goals
• Research, develop, and implement curricular programs designed to provide active and engaging opportunities for all students to learn.
• Provide direct service to schools, and conduct training sessions for administrators and teachers to support the successful implementation of curriculum.
• Collaborate with all BCPS curricular offices to provide a cohesive instructional program designed to meet the needs of all children.
• Remain a strong support to schools and offices in all endeavors related to student achievement of the Indicators in the Blueprint for Progress.
• Continue to refine alignment of all curricula with the Maryland Learning Outcomes.
