Elementary social studies educators teach students
the fundamental content knowledge, skills, and democratic values
necessary for fulfilling the duties of citizenship in a participatory
democracy. Educators are responsible for helping students reach
grade level standards in history, geography, economics, civics,
and multicultural education. Today's social studies educators must
empower students to make decisions and solve problems as they face
the challenges of functioning in a global society.
The mission of the Office of Elementary Social Studies
is to provide leadership, service, and support for all elementary
social studies educators to assist them in improving student achievement.
