Black Saga

The award winning Black Saga Competition was developed by Dr. Charles M. Christian, a social geographer and author. It is based on his book Black Saga: The African American Experience that represents extensive research into African American history in an attempt to uncover stories, so often misinterpreted, suppressed, or denied.

The Black Saga Competition offers an exciting, fun-filled forum for students to learn about the experience of African Americans in the United States. Students are responsible for knowing the answers to more than 800 questions about the African American experience, an integral part of America's heritage.
Baltimore County Public Schools has held a countywide Black Saga Competition each February since 2005. Teams from elementary and middle schools throughout the county compete to show their knowledge of the African American experience. Black Saga teams from BCPS schools also compete in the state competition held in March.

The 2009-2010 Baltimore County Black Saga Competition will be held on February 6, 2010 at New Town High School.
