Mission
The Office of Music develops, implements, and evaluates the music curriculum in Baltimore County Public Schools. The Office of Music provides direction and support for schools in delivering a comprehensive, engaging, and challenging music program for all students in grades K-12. Enrichment opportunities are offered countywide to provide students with additional experiences in order to develop higher levels of performance skills. Baltimore County was recognized by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities as a school system offering high quality fine arts education for all students. Additionally, Baltimore County was named as one of the top communities for music education by the American Music Conference in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Additionally, the Office of Music:

• Provides leadership, advice, and assistance in planning, developing and delivering rigorous instruction in music.
• Develops and implements rigorous curricular programs in music designed to provide active and engaging experiences for students.
• Provides direct service to schools and conducts professional development for teachers.
• Initiates, promotes, and provides performance opportunities for students through a variety of music enrichment programs.
• Uses current technology as a tool for extending and enhancing student achievement in music.
• Assesses the scope and quality of music instruction through the analysis of data gathered through performance assessments.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community stakeholders and partners.
