 CCBC / BCPS Cohort Graduation
- On Friday February 3, BCPS Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston joined CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis, at CCBC's Catonsville campus to award Certificates in Business to 56 BCPS employees marking their completion of 30 hours of academic credit.

 Cultural Exchange Meeting
- On February 1st, more than forty administrators and teachers met at Oregon Ridge to reflect upon their travel to China, listen to their colleagues’ stories, and to propose next steps for the Baltimore County Chinese programs.

 2011 Outstanding Teacher Awards
- On January 12th, Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston congratulated 20 BCPS teachers from schools across eastern Baltimore County as they received 2011 Outstanding Teacher Awards from business leaders at the 64th annual Awards and Installation Dinner of the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber of Commerce. |
 Save-A-Limb Ride Festival
- Baltimore On Saturday, October 22nd Dr. Joe A. Hairston along with over 200 BCPS employees joined members from the Sinai Hospital Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics, to promote health and wellness, during their 6th Annual Save-A-Limb Ride, Walk and Festival. The event took place at Oregon Ridge State Park where participants enjoyed a scenic bike ride of 30 miles, 15 miles and 6 miles, along with a 1 mile family walk. In addition, participants were treated to a picnic, a fitness fair and carnival. |

- On June 1st, at Greenwood, Superintendent Dr. Joe Hairston joined former BCPS coordinator of athletics, Mildred Murray, to present the 24th annual Mildred Murray All- Academic Scholar Athlete Award and Scholarship to two deserving senior student athletes. This year’s recipients were Elizabeth Bondarenko from Eastern Technical High School and Eric Upton from Dulaney High School. |

 Student Advisory Board Reunion Reception -
On January 4, Superintendent Dr. Joe Hairston welcomed current and past members of his Student Advisory Board to an annual reunion reception, held at Greenwood.
Each year since 2004, Dr. Hairston has appointed a small group of students to this advisory board: the only one of its kind in the region. |
 West Towson's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - On November 30th, West Towson Elementary School was formally dedicated as school and county officials gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event, which included a tour of the state-of-the-art school, featured remarks by Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston, State Superintendent Dr. Nancy S. Grasmick, and Baltimore County Executive James T. Smith.

 MBE Contractor Meet & Greet - On Wednesday, November 17th, the second annual Minority Business Enterprise Contractors gathered for a Meet and Greet networking event at the Timonium Fairgrounds, coordinated by the Purchasing Office of Baltimore County Public Schools system. In addition, Baltimore County Government, the Community College of Baltimore County and Baltimore County Public Library joined in hosting the event.

 Dundalk and Sollers Point Technical High Schools Groundbreaking - On October 21st, Baltimore County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Joe A.Hairston, Baltimore County Executive James T. Smith and other county dignitaries, lead the groundbreaking for the new Dundalk and Sollers Point Technical High Schools building. |
 First Day of School - Schoolhouse doors around Baltimore County opened for 104,000 students for the first day of school on August 30th. Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston, School Board Members, County Executive Jim Smith and State Superintendent Dr. Nancy Grasmick visited five schools to welcome students and faculty to this new academic year. Among them were New Town Elementary School, where Dr. Hairston congratulated teachers and students for strong MSA performances, and McCormick Elementary School, where new technology is in place. Relay, Grange and the newly opened West Towson elementary schools were also part of the tour. |

 County proclaims BCPS Decade of Distinction Day - At a special recognition ceremony on May 12, 2010, BCPS Superintendent Dr. Joe A. Hairston, was the recipient of a proclamation honoring 10 years of school system success during Dr. Hairston tenure. Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith –presided over the ceremony proclaiming the day "BCPS Decade of Distinction Day" to acknowledge the strides taken by students, staff, and schools during the 10 years under Dr. Hairston's leadership. |

 On January 15th Dr. Joe A. Hairston along with other dignitaries participated in State Superintendent Dr. Nancy Grasmick’s “Tour of Excellence”. The visit to Eastern Tech High School focused on the school being recently named one of the 2009 Maryland Blue Ribbon School of Excellence winners.  Dundalk Wellness Center Ribbon Cutting -
On September 18th, Baltimore County Public Schools unveiled its newest school-based wellness center at Dundalk Elementary School. The wellness centers are a joint project between the Baltimore County Health Department and BCPS. Including Dundalk Elementary, 15 schools now have school-based wellness centers that provide primary care services.

The scholarships are designed to encourage graduating students to pursue careers in education.  On March 30th, Lansdowne High School held its annual School to Career Appreciation Luncheon at Snyder’s Willow Grove Restaurant in Lansdowne. This student-organized event provides an opportunity to honor and recognize employers and mentors.
