| The
award winning High School Sports Scene, highlights the student-athletes
and athletic programs of the Baltimore County Public Schools.
A half hour monthly magazine show, the program showcases a different
high school each month with feature stories on that school’s
athletic program and profiles of an outstanding male
and an outstanding female student-athlete. In the “Coach’s
Corner” portion of the program, host Randy Dase interviews
student athletes and their coaches. The “SportsRap”
segment of the program offers BCPS Athletics administrators Ron
Belinko and Jill Masterman the opportunity to inform the viewing
public about topics and initiatives important to interscholastic
sports in Baltimore County. And
“Tips from the Training Room”, presents expert advice
for student athletes on topics of training, nutrition and injury
prevention. In addition to highlighting student achievement and
informing the public, High School Sports Scene provides an invaluable
learning opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers
in broadcast journalism. Each season, several students are selected,
through a competitive application and audition process, to serve
as reporters on the program. These students accompany
a camera crew to BCPS high schools, conduct interviews, write
the feature stories that appear on the show, and serve as hosts
for the program.
