Business Operations

Business Operations is an office within the Department of Technology. Business Operations provides three primary services:

  • Performs fiscal services for the Department of Technology such as budget submission preparation, purchase order generation, bid preparation and expense monitoring.
  • Applies for and obtains reimbursement for telecommunications expenses through the federal government’s E-Rate program, which provides funding to schools and libraries to support technology. The E-rate program operates under the auspices of the Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund, which is administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company under the direction of the Federal Communications Commission.
  • Procures and funds data and voice communications for the school system.

Under the E-rate program, service providers receive the full amount for which they contract. Costs for the eligible goods and services, however, is split between BCPS and the Universal Service Fund.
