What is a Portfolio?

A portfolio is a purposeful collection of student work that tells the story of a student's efforts, progress or achievement. Portfolios should be viewed as a growing, evolving description of a student's learning experiences that shows growth over time and provides useful information about the unique development of each student.

There is a section on this web site for each of the audiences below. Students can begin developing their portfolios by entering the "STUDENT" section. Teachers will find helpful guidelines for teaching portfolio development in the "TEACHER" segment. Parents can learn how they can help in the "PARENT" section. And potential employers can learn about the importance of this new subjective assessment tool in the "EMPLOYER" section.

Whether you are a student, a teacher, a parent or an employer, you can get an idea of how this web site is organized by going to the Portfolio web site OUTLINE in the teacher section.

After the audio plays click on the "Close" button in the upper left hand corner of the audio player before going on to the next page.
