Rationale
An important goal of educational institutions is to prepare students for careers, for further education and for their place as contributing members of society. Integration of academic and technical course work with the world of careers promotes student interest and achievement in the attainment of this mission. The Career Center is a valuable resource that provides a career connection and serves as an integral part of the teaching and learning experience.

The Career Center's primary function is to address students' needs in the retrieval of pertinent information concerning all aspects of career development. Innovative materials in the Career Center enhance students' knowledge of the world of work and educational opportunities. An effective Career Center provides activities that will assist students in

  • identifying interests and abilities
  • clarifying social and ethical values in the workplace
  • exploring careers
  • selecting a career path
  • investigating colleges and technical schools
  • identifying career attributes and requirements
  • preparing a resume, portfolio and interview practice
  • researching job market statistics and trends
  • evaluating their employability skills
  • The Career Center will help students explore options and opportunities in
  • order to make informed career choices, thereby furthering better
  • educational planning and enhanced academic achievement.

The implementation of a Career Center is in accordance with the goals and objectives of Baltimore County Public Schools, Maryland State Department of Education Career Connections Initiative, and the School to Work Opportunities Act.
