Spam is flooding
the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to
force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive
it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products,
get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spam costs the sender
very little to send -- most of the costs are paid for by the recipient
or the carriers rather than by the sender. The amount of Spam being
sent to BCPS email accounts has been on the rise. CSC has directions
for redirecting mail labeled as Spam by the Exchange server to another
folder. The Spam Filter
page is located on this link.
How can I keep my account from
getting Spam?
What do I do when I get Spam messages?
- Everyone with an email address will eventually get Spam. Many
callers to the Customer Support Center are concerned that they
will get in trouble because an email of dubious content arrives
in their mailbox. CSC knows that Spam is out there and no one
will get in trouble for just receiving Spam.
- Follow the directions
for Filtering Spam on this link. This will redirect Spam to
another folder to keep your Inbox from getting cluttered.
- Do not reply to Spam. This just confirms to the Spammer that
they found a legitimate email address.
