Your User
Name and Password are the "keys" to a great deal of communication,
technology, and employee information. Therefore it is extremely important
that all BCPS staff protect their credentials. A person that knows
your user name and password can read your email and send email under
your name, access your person drive space on a school server, and
access personnel information on line using Employee Self-Service (ESS)
on the BCPS Intranet. If you feel that your password has been compromised
please call the Customer Support Center to have your password reassigned.
Tips on Protecting Your Password
- Never share your password with anyone! A CSC Technician should
not ask you for your password!
- Memorize your password. Don't write it on a piece of paper and
store it somewhere you think it is safe. If you have a password
that was randomly generated and you would like to change it to
something you can remember click on this link: Outlook/Domain
- Changing Your Password
- Don't make your password obvious like a child or spouse's name.
- Use letters and numbers in your password.
Tips on
Protecting Your Account and Email
- Always exit Outlook when stepping away from your computer to
keep others from accessing your mail.
- If you log into your computer using your user name and password
on the BCPS Domain you must be sure to log off when you are away
from your computer.
- Users that log in this way will NOT be prompted for a password
when launching Outlook. If you leave your machine logged in,
and leave the area, any one can read your mail and send mail
as if they were you.
- Your files on the H:\ drive could be moved or deleted if
you don't log off when away from your machine.
- To log off go to the Start Menu and Select
Log Off. (see graphic below)

- Click Log Off button to
confirm your request to log off your computer. (see graphic
below)
- If you are reading mail on the Internet (http://email.bcps.org)
be sure to log off and exit your browser to ensure that no one
else can then get into your mail with out providing the password.
- Closing your browser, by clicking the red X, may not log
you out. To be sure that you have logged out click on the
log out icon that is located on the right hand side of the
web interface above the inbox field. (see grapic below)

- You know you have successfully logged out of the web interface
for email when you see the screen below. (see graphic below)
What do I do if I need a new password?
- Call the Customer Support Center at x4672 and tell the Technician
that you need a new password. He or she will ask you several questions
like the last six digits of your Social Security Number, and your
home zip code which will allow him or her to look up your account.
Then a new password will be randomly generated. Write the new
password down and check your email as soon as possible to follow
the directions in an email that will be waiting for you.
What happens after I, or CSC, changes
my password?
- After you change your password on the Internet (Outlook/Domain
- Changing Your Password) or you call CSC to have your password
changed expect the following:
- Your new password will work immediately to gain access to
your email.
- Your new password may take up to an hour
to work on computers joined to the Domain for log in purposes,
or for other BCPS systems that require user name and passwords
to log in.
