The following instructions should be used
to set up Outlook XP for Windows XP when your machine is joined
to the BCPS Domain. Users that are joined to the Domain will log
into Windows with their email user name and password. The directions
below will need to be followed the first time you launch Outlook
on each machine that you log onto with your user name and password.
Please note that you will NOT be asked for a password when opening
up email because you have already provided that password to Windows
when you log onto the Domain. It is therefore important that all
users LOG OFF of their computers when they will be away from their
machine.
Log onto Windows using your Domain account (email user name
and password).
Launch Outlook by double clicking the Outlook Icon on the desktop.
Click on Next when you see the Outlook 2002
Startup window. (see graphic below)
Verify that the Yes radio button is selected
and click the Next button. (See graphic below)
Select the top radio button named Microsoft
Exchange Server and then click the Next
button. (See graphic below)
Type exchange.bcps.org in the box next to Microsoft
Exchange Server:. Type your user id
in the box next to User Name:. Your user id is
your first initial and last name (jdoe). Some users with common
last names also have a number at the end of their user id (jdoe2).
Click the Next button when done. (see graphic
below)
Now click Finish. (see graphic below)
If your user id is similar to others in the county you may see
a window like the one below. Select your name from the list and
click OK. (see graphic below)
Once you are in your account you need to configure Outlook to
empty the Deleted Items folder when you exit the program.
Go to the Tools menu and select Options.
(see graphic below)
Click the Other tab and then check the box
next to Empty the Deleted items folderupon
exiting. (see graphic below)
Now click the Spelling tab and check the box
next to Always check spelling before sending.
NOTE: This is optional. Click OK when finished.
(see graphic below)
Your account is now ready to use. Remember to log off of your
machine when you will not be using it to protect your account.
