In an effort to make managing email more
efficient, the network support team has introduced a new SPAM filtering
solution. This solution will monitor both inbound and outbound emails
to determine what emails are legitimate for our system. It will
then use a formula to determine whether certain inbound emails are
considered SPAM. Once it has identified an email as SPAM, it will
add a 'Tag' to the subject in the following format : [Suspected
~SPAM~]
Because no mail is being filtered out, just
tagged as SPAM, some users have noted that sometimes images may
be displayed on a public area computer due to the automatic preview
pane that is used by default on both Outlook Exchange and the Internet
Mail Interface.
The directions below show how to disable
the preview pane. This will allow users to handle messages tagged
as SPAM in a more secure manner.

Disabling Preview Pane on Outlook
Exchange
- Launch Outlook Exchange program and log into email.
- Go to the View menu and select Preview
Pane. Note: If Preview Pane is not visible click on the
small arrows that point down or wait several seconds for the menu
to fully expand. (See Graphic Below)

- To enable the Preview Pane repeat step 2.
- When the Preview Pane is disabled open messages by double clicking
the message.
Disabling Preview Pane on Internet
Mail Interface
- Open up Internet Explorer and log into email by going to email.bcps.org.
- Click on the Preview Pane button and choose
Off from the menu that appears. (See Graphic
Below)
