- Empty Deleted Items Automatically
When you delete messages in Outlook they
go into a folder called "Deleted Items" where they remain until
that folder is emptied. If the Deleted Items folder gets too full
you may see a message that states your mailbox has exceeded its
capacity. This will shut down your account and not allow any new
messages to be sent or received. To avoid this problem, follow the
directions below to automatically empty the Deleted Items folder
when you Exit and Log Off of Outlook. Click on the version of Outlook
you are using below to view the directions.

Outlook 2003 (Windows XP)
Outlook 2000 (Windows 2000)
Outlook 97 (Windows 95, 98)

Outlook
2003 (Windows XP)
- Log into your Outlook account.
- Go to the Tools menu and select Options. (see
graphic)

- Click on the Other tab. Check the box next to Empty
the Deleted Items folder upon exiting by clicking inside it.

- Click on the Apply button and then the OK button
to close the window.
- From now on when you Exit of Outlook click on Yes
to confirm that you want to empty the Deleted Items folder.
 
Outlook 2000
(Windows 2000)
- Log into your Outlook 2000 account.
- Go to the Tools menu and select Options. (see
graphic)

- Click on the Other tab. Check the box next to Empty
the Deleted Items folder upon exiting by clicking inside it.

- Click on the Apply button and then the OK button
to close the window.
- From now on when you Exit and Log Off of Outlook click
on Yes to confirm that you want to empty the Deleted
Items folder.

- Log into your Outlook 97 account.
- Go to the Tools menu and select Options. (see

- Click on the General tab and then check the box next
to Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting by clicking
inside the box. (see graphic)

- Click on the Apply button and then the OK button
to close the window.
- From now on when you Exit and Log Off of Outlook click
on Yes to confirm that you want to empty the Deleted
Items folder.
