Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) and College Board Preparing All Students for College Readiness

Mission
AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID is an acronym for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID targets those students who are in the middle, underachievers, and/or students with limited exposure to college readiness information and competencies. College Board is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to connect students to college readiness opportunities and college success through its programs and services such as Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), SAT, Advanced Placement (AP), SAT Online, CollegeEd, and SpringBoard English. AVID is currently implemented in 22 high schools and eight middle schools in Baltimore County.
