Orientation of New Principals
Synopsis

Individuals who have recently been appointed as new Principals have many questions relating to the finances at their schools. Through the on-site orientation, staff members from the Office of Internal Audit will meet with the new Principal to provide an overview of their school's finances and offer assistance with understanding budget, accounting, and School Activity Fund issues. The format of the orientation will vary depending upon the questions and needs of the Principal.

Discussion Points

At the on-site orientation, we will discuss:

  • Managing the fiscal activity at the school to ensure compliance with Board of Education policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Budget, Accounting, and School Activity Fund issues
  • Support services provided by the Office of Internal Audit
  • Resources available relating to fiscal management
  • Questions and issues raised by the new Principal

Date, Time & Location

Staff members from the Office of Internal Audit will contact new Principals during their first month on the job to set an appointment for the orientation. The orientation will take place at the school site, and will last about 1½ hours.
