Mission

The Meadowood Education Center (MEC) is an alternative middle school committed to servicing the needs of students who have not been successful in the traditional school setting. We, the staff, believe we must set the conditions for success through student assessment, a unique instructional program, and a comprehensive and therapeutic program of student services that stress social development and challenges students to become responsible citizens in an everchanging multicultural society.

Goals

  • Provide and maintain a safe and orderly academic and therapeutic environment.
  • Prepare students to return to their comprehensive home Schools and be successful utilizing the various interventions and skills they learned and were successful with at MEC.
  • Provide an opportunity to allow students to increase their technology skills within the school environment.

School Profile
The Meadowood Education Center (MEC) is housed at the corner of Gwynn Oak Avenue and Dogwood Road in the Woodlawn section of Baltimore County. It is an alternative middle school serving a maximum of 75 students in grades 6, 7 and 8 from both the Southwest and Northwest areas of Baltimore County. Students enter MEC after having been referred by the respective Superintendent's Designee. The referrals are based on expulsions or program reviews. It is the intent of MEC to return each student to his/her home School with the skills necessary to be successful in a comprehensive school environment.
