Academic Program
The academic program at the Meadowood Education Center
(MEC) concentrates on the core courses of English, math, science,
and Social Studies. In addition, the following disciplines
are offered: art and computer technology. The teachers develop
thematic units throughout the year which incorporate all subject
areas. THis mehtod of instruction provides continuity and
enables students to expand their knowledge of particular areas.
It encourages students to utilize their individual unique
capabilities.
Therapeutic Component
Upon entrance to MEC, each student is assigned to one of
three guidance counselors on staff. Each guidance counselor
is assigned to interact with the administrative staff of a specific
group of schools. The guidance counselor follows the assigned
student form the intake process to the transition back to the
student's home School. THe intention is to maintain and ensure
quality service and strengthen the lines of communication between
MEC and upon return to the student's home School. The goals
of the GUidance Department are to enable students to experience
school success, to enable students to develop career awareness,
and positive decision-making skills, and to assist students
in understanding and respecting themselves and others. Guidance
