Home Teaching Program
The Home Teaching program is designed to provide individualized instruction at the residence of an expelled student or at another site, such as a local library. The student may be of elementary school age or one with emotional, psychological, behavior, and/or learning problems. For elementary students, instruction is provided in reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science for a total of six hours a week. For middle and high school, non IEP students, instruction is provided for 4 hours a week. IEP middle and high school students receive six hours of instruction in four major subjects. Current competency levels are identified in order to reinforce basic skills and raise student levels in math, reading and writing. For each special education student, the IEP (Individual Education Program) must be reviewed by the home teacher providing instruction while the student is on “expulsion,” “program review” or administrative transfer” status.
Student Admission
Students expelled from the regular day school program are assigned to home teaching by a Superintendent’s designee. In some cases, a program review is recommended by the designee. While the student’s total education program is being reviewed, the student may be removed from the school and instructed by a home teacher.
