Location and Facilities
Home and Hospital Center is located in Bare Hills on
Falls Road, just north of the Mount Washington area of Baltimore
City. The name Bare Hills refers to the lack of trees and the
unique vegetation that grows in this area due to deposits of
chromium. Historically, this was an area settled by freed slaves
at the turn of the century. The school building is constructed
of serpentine rock that was quarried from the Bare Hills area.
Conference bridge telephone units and an international teleconferencing
platform, which teachers use to conduct the teleclasses, are
located at the Home and Hospital Center. Classes can accommodate
from twenty to twenty-six students. A teacher may group students
into two or three groups. The system also allows the teacher
to talk privately with a student. All teaching rooms are equipped
with computers that are used in teaching courses. The computer
provides a visual component to the lesson and also acts as an
interactive blackboard in higher level math and science courses.
