The Home and Hospital Center provides instruction for students in Grades PreK-12 who are restricted from school by appropriate medical personnel for reasons of physical or emotional health, as well as students who are expelled.  Students with verified medical conditions, including pregnancy, are taught either by distance learning or individual instruction in the home, hospital, or therapeutic center.  Students who have been expelled may be provided home instruction.

The Center is staffed by a combination of full-time and hourly teachers and tutors.  At present there are 12 certified BCPS teachers and approximately 180 hourly teachers and tutors for the total student population that exceeds 2000 students.

e-Learning Center

The e-Learning Center currently provides high quality instructional services in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies to eighth grade students enrolled in the full-time Home and Hospital and Home Teaching programs.  Students learn in web-based environments where instruction is provided via computer through a blended approach that utilizes direct instruction, as well as independent learning.  Moodlerooms is the course management system used to support e-Learning Center courses, which are self-paced.  Students enrolled in these courses have 24-hour access to instructional resources, which can be explored by visiting http://elearningcenter.bcps.org/ or http://bcps.mrooms3.net/

In the future, the e-Learning Center will expand, offering courses at the high school level and additional courses at the middle school level.
