Second Annual e-Communities Summit
March 30, 2006

The Second Annual e-Communities Summit featured Susan Brooks-Young. Susan is an education consultant and author currently experimenting with wikis, blogs, and online communities.  The summit offered additional guest speakers, break-out sessions, "birds of a feather" discussions over lunch, and time to both gather and share information.  The summit was organized by the Baltimore County Public Schools in collaboration with MSDE and several Ed Tech Title II-D consortia: the Learning Management System Consortium, the Project Open Consortium, and the Maryland Students Online Consortium.

First Annual e-Communities Summit

The first e-Communities Summit was held on May 5, 2005 at the Johns Hopkins Columbia Campus. Over fifty representatives from across the state were treated to a wealth of information from leading experts in the field. Tim Magner, Deputy Director of the Office of Education Technology for the United States Department of Education provided the greetings for the day.

Following the greetings from Mr. Magner, guests were presented with a Panel Discussion on Successful Uses of e-Communities in Maryland. Denise Simard, a former member of CTE's Online Learning and Distance Education Branch, facilitated the panel presentation.

The day included several breakout sessions on such topics as:

At the conclusion of the summit, participants were involved in focus groups and planning sessions enabling them to implement these new ideas in their school systems.
