International Peace Day - On September 21st, people around the world played soccer to celebrate International Peace Day. BCPS News joined the students from Crossroads Center as they hosted their own mini “World Cup” with the students from Chase Elementary School in honor of this auspicious day.

Plumbing Program at Western - Western School of Technology is one of two schools in BCPS to offer a program in Mechanical Construction and Plumbing.  As a testament to the success of the program, Jeff Crook a senior won the Skills USA Maryland State Championship for high school plumbers.

Hampton Mansion - The BCPS social studies curriculum is being brought to life through a partnership with the Hampton National Historic site. Students can visit the estate and step back in time through this informative, hands-on, living history field trip. BCPS News was there along with the students from Lutherville Lab as they explored this Baltimore County, American History time capsule.

Better Speech & Hearing Month - Since 1927, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association has celebrated Better Hearing and Speech Month each May to raise public awareness of speech and language disorders that affect 14 million Americans- and BCPS is a proud participant. Speech and Language Pathologists throughout BCPS are an important part of student success.

Annual Battle for the Bell - Franklin Middle School and Franklin High School faced off in the annual Battle for the Bell charity basketball game. All proceeds went to the Jimmy-V Foundation. BCPS News was there from the tip-off, to the final whistle.

Volcanoes - Eighth-grade environmental /earth science magnet students from Sudbrook Magnet Middle School visited kindergarten students at Fort Garrison Elementary School to share their scientific knowledge of volcanoes using working models that erupted with lava and ash.

Math Challenge - This year’s 24 Math Challenge showcased an awesome display of mathematical computations from the County’s top mathematicians. These mathletes have been training for months to get ready for this exhilarating event. Don’t miss it!

Construction/Engineering Career Day -Nearly 500 Baltimore County high school students and 100 volunteers converged on Alban Tractor’s Pulaski Highway’s site to celebrate the 7th Annual Highway Construction and Engineering Career Day.

Mural at Norwood - Thanks to the generosity of the Norwood Elementary School’s PTA, artist Mary Veiga was commissioned to paint a mural in the library media center.  From east to west, noted landmarks depicting Maryland are gracing the walls above the book shelves.

Pinwheels for Peace - Seventeen Elementary, Middle, and High Schools in Baltimore County participated in the worldwide event “Pinwheels for Peace”. More than 1.2 million handmade pinwheels were planted around the globe. BCPS News visited Joppa View Elementary as they marked this day of calm, serenity and peace among friends and communities.
