Middle, high school students can register now for summer Math Academy

Free program to help Algebra 1 students develop, maintain readiness skills

TOWSON, MD — Baltimore County Public Schools students recommended to take Algebra 1 in Grade 8 or Grade 9 during the upcoming school year can register now to participate in a free summer Math Academy to help develop or maintain algebra readiness skills.

Seats are limited for this free program, and enrollments will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Transportation will be provided as necessary.
The program will be offered at various middle and high schools across the county from July 9 – Aug. 3, from 7:30 – 11:30 a.m. or 7:45 -11:45 a.m. each day. (Exact time depends on the Math Academy site).

At the Math Academy, students will participate in a research-based, blended learning mathematics program designed to meet the specific needs of individual students. Each day will include four hours of mathematics instruction in which students participate in whole-class, small group, and individual learning opportunities designed to develop students’ mindset, confidence, and beliefs about doing mathematics as they strengthen their understanding of key concepts and skills from prior grades to build their readiness for algebra.

Parents/guardians interested in registering their children for the Math Academy should either complete the form available online and return it to their child’s school counselor or directly contact their child’s school counselor. The form must be submitted or the contact must be made with the school counselor by Thursday, May 31. Registered students will receive a confirmation letter detailing the Math Academy site they have been assigned to, the exact time for the Math Academy at that site, and whether BCPS transportation is available.
